How many of you have lived through this scenario…you are walking through your living room, looking straight ahead like a good person should, and OUCH!!!! You step right on a Lego. I recently saw a quote on Pinterest that read, “Feet (noun): a device used for finding Legos in the dark.”
Wow, isn’t that the truth.
No matter where you step, no matter where you look, no matter where you sit, there are Legos. For the next 10 days (minus weekends) I am going to share with you some ideas on how you can take those precious but pesky little objects and use them in your homeschool. Imagine the delight on your child’s face when you break out the Legos right in the middle of homeschool lessons!
However, before we get started, here are some FAQs:
How can I store our Legos when they are not being played with?
I have the absolute most perfect solution a mom could ever dream of…the Lay-n-Go. Seriously, Amy Fazackerley is a genius. Simply put, the Lay-n-Go (besides being one of the most brilliant products I have ever seen) is a activity mat, cleanup, storage and carryall solution in one. The Lay-n-Go comes in 2 difference sizes – small is 18″ inches and the large one is a whopping 5 feet!
I simply cannot recommend this product enough and I know I am not alone, since it has won numerous awards including the The Mom’s Choice Awards®. Watch the short video below how easy Lego clean-up can be!
I was so blessed that the founder, Amy, sent me a large one to review and I am happily recommending it to everyone I know. She is also generously offering a 10% discount off any Lay-n-Go purchase until April 30th. Just use the code heart10 at checkout.
Be sure to show your support of Legos by becoming a fan of Lay-n-Go on Facebook and Twitter.
Where can I purchase a whole lot of Legos and not go broke?
We have bought several loads of bulk Legos from sellers on Ebay. Do a search for legos pounds and then specify Buy It Now and Free Shipping in the sidebar selections. We have purchased several 4 to 6 pound shipments of various Legos for less than $40! Here is our most recent purchase, all spread out in our handy Lay-n-Go.
Are there any books out there for Lego lovers?
Of course! There are early readers, chapter books, sticker books, idea books and more! Here are some of our favorites. Click the image for details:

We love legos! That lay-and-go looks so cool! Right now we have a plastic tub with a hinged top that holds our bulk legos. We have also used those plasic stackable drawer/bins in the past.
Needless to say I love Lego so will be looking forward to visiting your blog over the next 10 days. I hadn’t heard of the Lay-And-Go products before but have implemented similar concepts in my Lego-mad family over the last decade.
Sometimes I think quilts were born to be Lego mats!
Thanks for the great start to the series and I’ll check in again tomorrow
Cheers

Hey, look! I made it around to your 10 Day series! (I’m still working down the list..)
I have a relatively new serious lego lover in my house. He got his first legos for his bday in November and more for Christmas. I bought some on ebay to get him started — and I need to get more! =p Looking forward to reading through your resources!
When my son played with legos I hated cleaning them up. So we would put down aquilt or light blanket. Anything off the blanket he was in charge of picking up. We stored them in a green tote. We still have legos in the tote.
Love the 10 days of teaching with Legos. A couple of months ago my son started his own Lego blog. http://www.buildinglegoswithchrist.blogspot.com
He uses his Legos for just about everything.
My name is Amy and I am a Christian, wife to the most amazing man on the planet, mommy to a 10-year-old boy wonder, classical homeschooler, genealogist, and Trekkie. ...Read More
Ooooh, I am going to LOVE this series! (And my boys will benefit greatly, I’m sure…) Awesome links, Amy, thanks!
Oh, that looks really nice! WE use a blanket to dump them on and then put them back in containers….I’ll have to check this out!
Being the mom of a huge LEGO lover, I appreciated this post. I have never seen the Lay-N-Go, but I’m going to look at it now!!
The character encyclopedias are a huge hit in our house, too.
I can’t wait for the rest of your series!
I am so looking forward to this series. Is it sad that we have read or have almost all of those books.

Looking forward to your series! We were JUST at the library today trying to find some lego books! Thanks for the recommendations!
